Don’t Expect on People

Post written by Raymund Tamayo

How much of our stress, disappointments, frustrations, anger, and irritation comes from this one little thing? Expectations. Almost all of our negative reactions and decisions come from our expectations of others.

We build these expectations in our heads of what other people should do, what our lives should be like, how our kids should behave… and when they are not met, we suffer internally.

When reality doesn’t meet our fantasy, we wish things were different. Being thankful suddenly becomes a hard thing to do.

This is my suggestion: Don’t expect on people, and focus on being grateful of God’s promises.

Picture all your expectations you have for yourself, your life, your spouse, your kids, your coworkers, your job, the world, and submit them all to God. Take them from inside you and give it all to Him who loves you more than you’ll ever know.

Now live your life without these expectations, just trusting God that He is always, ALWAYS in control.

What’s a life without expectations and a full trust in God like? It means you accept reality as it is, and people as they are, without expectations, without trying to force people into the boxes you have created for them, loving them as God loves them – as they are.

Appreciating the present – the NOW – the what’s going on around you, and being thankful that you’re still breathing, that you’re in love, and someone is in love with you madly.

It’s a life where you don’t need to be disappointed or frustrated or angry --- or whenever you are, you accept it, and then let it go.

That’s not to say that you never act – but you become PROACTIVE. You act in a way that’s in accordance to your values, influencing the world, but never having an expectation that they will follow you or how they will react to your actions.

Pay attention to your thoughts. Don’t beat yourself up by having such high expectations of others. Just see them and give them to our Father in heaven who knows what is really best for us.

If you do this, you will notice how God transforms you into the person He wants you to be – compassionate, considerate, appreciative, encouraging, selfless, and loving – pretty much like Himself.

I am not saying that I’m in this level now. I’m still in the process, and willing to let God lead me and be in the driver seat of my life.
